Hounds Baseball is funded by Tri State Baseball Association (TSBA), a 501(c)(3) entity devoted to raising money for area youth who wish to enhance their skills in the sport of baseball. Created by Tim & Jon Adkins in 1998, their sole purpose was to develop local talent into college & professional athletes. In 2003, they had their very first draft pick to MLB, & began a tradition that has continued since. At least one Hounds Alumni has been selected to play in a MLB organization each year since 2003. In 2018, three Hounds Alumni were selected in the major league draft. We’ve helped 35 players achieve over $7 million in professional baseball contracts & hundreds of player secure more than $11 million in collegiate scholarships.
As a non-profit organization, we believe in the importance of ensuring athletes from WV, OH & KY have the tools they need to compete & be successful not only in baseball, but in every aspect of life.
We work to develop extraordinary baseball players! More importantly, we work to develop extraordinary individuals who become productive, model citizens within their communities that look for ways to contribute & enhance the quality of life for others.
In the 2020 season, we rostered over 110 players from across the region including Lewisburg, WV, Portsmouth, OH, & Morehead, KY! Our teams traveled to & competed in tournaments in Atlanta, Indianapolis, Nashville, Cleveland, Richmond just to name a few. Our teams would play other travel teams local to the area to keep their skills sharp & ready for the next tournament.
In 2021, our goal is to continue to train, field & fund 5 teams to travel across the country representing the very best in sportsmanship & professionalism from around the Tri-State area. From 13 & under (13U) through 17 & under (17U), we are anticipating a roster of over 75 players this year & want to do everything possible to make sure these kids are successful. But success is sometimes difficult to achieve. Afterall, if achieving success was easy, then everyone would be doing it. Sometimes circumstances occur that can prevent kids from reaching their full potential, and as an organization it’s our job to teach these kids how to overcome adversity.
TSBA works with, parents, vendors & local businesses to reduce costs & raise money for that child. We give parents many opportunities to participate in fundraising campaigns to help offset their out of pocket expenses. TSBA also partners with the WV Baseball Club (WVBC) which offers private training lessons to kids who want that extra edge on their game. Leveraging the experience of former MLB players, they are able to provide that one on one coaching & development within specialty areas like pitching, catching, fielding & batting. WV Baseball Club donates the use of their facility to TSBA & Hounds Baseball providing our players with an indoor facility for practice regardless of weather or time of year.
With our indoor facility located on Ohio River Road, we offer our Saturday Night Open House Training ( consisting of 4 separate classes each Saturday night ) at aggressively discounted rates from August through May. These weekly events are opened to the general public, & allow kids to make new friends with others who are similar in age & gives local players the chance to seek advice on specific techniques from the instructors! Over the last year, these events have brought kids from Boyd County, Parkersburg, Gallipolis, & Charleston together with common interests & given them the chance to build lifelong friendships while enjoying the sport they love.
Tri State Baseball Association is poised to continue helping youth in the 2021 season.
Let us all remember that we are “building on foundations we did not lay.” Those who have gone before us have laid the groundwork on which we are building tomorrow’s teams. Let’s always remember to “Give and Bring Our Best.”
